Sigillo

Monastery of St Anna

The area of the cloistered monastery is obviously not visited as opposed to the church of S. Anna, open every morning. In ancient times this area was to be built The Rock of Sigillo, which today is the name, and it seems some traces in the walls of the convent. The latter was founded in 1547, and restored in 1763. Hunted with the Napoleonic suppression, the nuns fall in 1821, and can remain even after the suppression of 1860 thanks to the intervention of the City, which acquires possession ensuring the establishment of primary schools. The monastery today is much broader, and hosts also a guest house with a capacity of 25-30 people, currently undergoing renovation. Are practiced some craft activities such as the production of sweets, and made-up textiles with a frame-century original. The church was built in 1547 in connection with the convent, but in 1790 underwent a radical reconstruction, which was completed two years later. in 1823 is added to the bell tower. The interior looks like a small classroom unique in the counter is the choir, and along the side walls there are two chapels, dedicated to the Sacred Heart to the left and the right, at Our Lady of Good Counsel. In the bottom of the left wall there is a niche houses a wooden statue of St. Anna, carried in procession during the Feast of July 26. While there is a canvas depicting S. Anna, Maria and Gioacchino, the monastery houses a beautiful choir century.
